Tina Tombs
Phoenix, AZ
The Arizona Biltmore GC
My Career in golf spans five decades. My determination and ability to set clear goals are qualities that helped me achieve success both as a player and now as a teacher. My first LPGA win came in 1990 at the Jamie Farr Toledo Championship. In 1993, I finished second at the Sara Lee Classic losing in a three hole playoff. While I learned from successes, the cuts that I missed, the tears that I shed, and the sleepless nights before championship Sundays are ones that I treasure and that have molded me to become the teacher that I am and want to be in the future and that is the best of all women and men combined. I have trained with the best teachers and sports psychologists that the game has to offer. All of them have influenced my life, my game and more importantly, have influenced my teaching philosophies and techniques. I have experienced both great successes and moments of struggles, both of which have inspired me to become a student of the game. I love to apply what I learn. Every day when I go to the tee, it does not feel like work, because I love what I do. My love of teaching has allowed me to relate to my students , and I am able to teach to their specific needs and goals in a safe and fun environment.

Tina was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1962, and her family moved to Bedford, New Hampshire when she was 12 years old. She was introduced to golf in Canada by her dad who was an avid golfer. In 1976, Tina started splitting her time between fun junior clinics and the pool at the local country club. Soon after, she was playing on the boy’s high school golf team and began following her lifelong-idols New Englanders and LPGA Hall of Fame Members Jane Blalock, Pat Bradley and JoAnne Carner.
Tina followed in JoAnne Carner’s footsteps off to Arizona State University. As a varsity athlete on the golf team at ASU from 1980 to 1985, she was ranked among Golf Digest’s top 10 amateur golfers in the USA and became a two-time All-American. In 1987, Tina qualified for the LPGA Tour and began a 14-year professional playing career. Her highlight was winning the 1990 Jamie Farr Toledo Classic and a tying for first at the 1993 Sara Lee Classic shooting a career low of 64 in the final round. While she was on tour, she was also an integral part of the “Mom’s on Tour” who help get the Smucker’s Day Care program started that continues on the LPGA Tour Today.
Tina is married to Larry Fischer, and they have two daughters: Sarah and Heidi. Tina graduated from Arizona State University with a B.S. in Physical Education and a Minor in Anatomy and Physiology. Her programs include private lessons, women’s programs, adult programs, junior programs, and corporate events. Tina approaches her instruction with an emphasis on BioSwing Dynamics. Tina's instruction is widely recognized as bio-mechanically oriented, clearly communicated, and she is a positive source of motivation for her students, which range from single-digit to first-time golfers. One of the principles of her instruction is teaching her students to swing the club in the best way to suit their individual physicality, think of it as YOUR OWN BLUEPRINT! Programs are designed to benefit the students and provide a well-rounded and individually structured education that implements The Ultimate Golf Lesson Screenings and Tina also follows the LPGA Teaching Programs.
Tina was also a co-founder for the Arizona Women’s Golf Expo and served as an Expo committee member with LPGA proceeds benefitting the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix and it also served as a networking opportunity for LPGA Central Section members. The event has averaged 175-200 new female golfer attendees.
Tina’s work does not stop at the golf course. She also engages with the community through her involvement in the following charities: The Fresh Start Foundation, The Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona, Fresh Start Foundation of Arizona, Wings of Gold at Arizona State University, Barrow’s Neurological Institute, Boys and Girls Clubs of Arizona and various Breast Cancer organizations nationally.
