Lauren Strong, PGA: Coaching Philosophy

Every lesson and student of mine is so individually important to me. As a coach, establishing a relationship with my student is the first most important objective to me because I need them to know that I genuinely care about helping them reach their goals.

My teaching style can be classified as effective, fun, simple and approachable to all ages and skill levels. It is my responsibility as a coach to formulate customized and detailed strategies for each of my students that will guarantee continued success, improvement, and enjoyment of their game.

To accomplish these goals, I believe it is important to diligently create a positive atmosphere that facilitates growth and learning. Understanding my students past athletic experience, prior injuries, physical limitations, and short-term goals they would like to accomplish in the lesson helps me to produce a long-term plan.

In my coaching philosophy I have determined the top three most important objectives to provide the best lesson experience possible. This includes comfortability over the golf ball, helping my student understand why the golf ball does what it does (ball flight and direction), to then teach them how to
implement changes and improvements to the golf swing (cause and effect). Ball flight, club face interaction, and compression of the golf ball through proper explanation of the down-swing sequencing and impact positioning will provide understanding of producing solid golf shots.

Firstly, I run a diagnostic check on the fundamentals of the golf swing including ball-position, alignment, grip, and set up (B.A.G.S) to ensure comfortability and execution of these important basics. Secondly, I use video analysis, hands-on positioning, constant interactive feedback, and measurable attainments to
produce noticeable results. Thirdly, it is important to apply drills, explain effective practice methods, and provide summarization notes to each of my students after each lesson.

Other ways I help my student
reach their customized goals is through the utilization of training aids, Track-Man statistics, flexibility / mobility training, and nutrition and fitness plans. As a coach, I will always take pride in tracking my student’s success and believe it is crucial to effectively provide only positive and productive feedback to help my student stay motivated and enjoy the game of golf.
